Wage Levy/Garnishment


When the IRS has been unable to collect taxes from your bank accounts, they may attach your wages. This process is known as a “wage levy.”

After providing the required 30-day notice through certified mail, the IRS is legally allowed to levy or attach your wages.  Salaries in excess of $5,000 per month may result in a loss of wages in an amount equal to 60% to 70% of your take-home pay.

Wage levies/garnishments are the most devastating and humiliating of all governmental collection tools. They are designed to force taxpayers to come forward, deal with their tax problems and begin the process of full tax compliance.
