Unable To Pay Anything

Under certain circumstances, if your financial condition warrants, we can have your IRS collection case placed in a “temporary hold” status. Under this arrangement, the IRS  stops all collection activity until you are financially able to accept a payment plan or submit a settlement offer.

While the balance due is not forgiven, in many cases the IRS simply waits in a “holding pattern” for a number of years to see if your financial condition improves such that you are able to make payments toward the balance due.  If no positive change occurs in your financial circumstances, the IRS will generally continue to treat your tax case as “uncollectible.”

While you will receive a periodic reminder notice about the tax balance, the notice will indicate that it is not a bill, and just a reminder.
